It wasn't long before they came to what seemed to be the town square where an open-air market, that was very similar to the ones back in Ember, appeared to be taking place. The smell of fresh food permeated the air and made Derek's mouth water. It felt like forever since he had eaten something that wasn't fruit or dried meat.

"Excuse me," Derek heard Arabelle ask as they moved through the crowd of people. She was speaking to a woman—a Tybeni, judging by the pale skin, dark hair and monolid eyes—who tended a nearby fish stall. "Are there any magic shops in this town?"

"Magic shops, eh?" The woman said. She spoke in halting Aloserian. "There's Blackwood's, which is just further up the street, opposite the blacksmith's. You could also try the Magic Menagerie which is two streets down. Big, pink building, you can't miss it."

"I see. Thank you so much."

"You two go check the Magic Menagerie," Derek said while they were gathered by the ornate fountain in the middle of the town square. "And I'll go to this Blackwood's."

"Are you sure?" said Arabelle, as if splitting up in a place like this was a cause for concern.

"It'll be quicker this way." He slid his hands into his pockets. "Besides, I can take care of myself."

And so it was agreed; Arabelle and Jared would go to the Menagerie to see if they could find any information on the amulet or where to find the third piece, while Derek would go to Blackwood's and afterwards they would meet back up at the fountain.

It wasn't long before he turned onto a narrower street. This one was empty of people and had a much seedier look to it than the rest of the town. The buildings on this street looked slightly dilapidated and not quite as well maintained.

He continued up the street until he came to a stop in front of a small building opposite a blacksmith's. It was made up of plain, grey brick and mortar. A sign hung above the door that read, Blackwood's Spells, Potions and Magical Objects.

A bell chimed above his head as Derek walked through the door. The inside of the store was empty of other people and quite dark, with dark, wooden floorboards and black painted walls. Heavy, black curtains covered the windows, letting in only the barest slivers of daylight. There was an impressive collection of strange and fascinating items on display all over the place; in the centre of the room was a table stacked with glass bottles of all different shapes, sizes and colours. All were filled with some type of liquid. Potions, Derek guessed. In one of the corners was a rack of enchanted weapons. Mirrors of all different shapes and sizes were hung up on the left wall. A large, glass, cabinet filled with an assortment of miscellaneous objects stood against the far right wall.

He wandered over to look at a large, metallic, black box that was sitting on a pedestal beside the glass cabinet.
